Babalola allegedly told Obi that he would withdraw the case if Farotimi apologized and admitted the allegations were false.
“Baba Afe told Obi that he (Babalola) has nothing to gain by Farotimi’s incarceration. If he says the allegations are false and offers an apology in some newspapers, then, the case can be withdrawn” the source said.
However, Farotimi has demanded that Babalola withdraw the case first as a precondition for his apology.
The activist reportedly told Obi that he did not invite anybody to plead on his behalf.
Another source said Obi took the step to identify with a member of his presidential campaign team who is in trouble.
According to Daily Post, Obi’s visit was reportedly arranged by a prominent Yoruba leader to find an amicable resolution to the legal issue between Babalola and Farotimi.
Farotimi, who was arrested last Tuesday by the Ekiti State Police Command over allegations of defamation and cyberbullying.
The charges stem from accusations that he spread false information against Afe Babalola, a renowned legal luminary.
The Inspector-General of Police subsequently filed a 12-count charge against Farotimi, including cybercrime-related offences.
Farotimi’s arraignment stems from allegations of defamation against Afe Babalola (SAN) in his book, “Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System,” where he accused Babalola of corrupting Supreme Court judges.
On Monday, Farotimi was granted bail on the cybercrime charges. However, he returned to the Ekiti Magistrate Court on Tuesday for arraignment over alleged defamation.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
