2027: Doyin Okupe: Power Cannot Return to the North, Even If It Isn’t Bola Tinubu

Doyin Okupe, a former Goodluck Jonathan presidential assistant, has made it clear that the North will not regain the presidency in 2027. According to Daily Post, he emphasized that Nigeria’s main challenge is sectionalism, which he described as the core issue causing the nation’s stagnation.

According to Okupe, political leaders in the past were more focused on the national interest than narrow regional concerns.

 

 

He reiterated that Nigeria operates on a rotational system, where power alternates between the North and the South every eight years.

“I say this authoritatively, without any fear of contradiction or equivocation: in 2027, power will not return to the North.

That’s not how we do it,” Okupe declared.

He explained that after the North completes its eight years, the South will take the next turn.

Okupe clarified that while he is not suggesting that Bola Tinubu must remain president in 2027, the next president will not be from the North.

This statement comes amidst growing debates on regional power dynamics and the future direction of Nigeria’s leadership.
