Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed how he almost became addicted to drugs. He spoke at the Recovery Advocacy Network’s second “Fly Above The High” anti-drug campaign conference in Abeokuta over the weekend, according to the Daily Post. The former president criticized the rise in drug abuse among West Africans, including Nigerians, and advised Nigerian youth and students to avoid using psychoactive substances because they ruin rather than improve life.
In his words, “If I had persisted, I could have become addicted. Once you get involved, it is difficult to get out. There’s nothing drugs can do for you except destruction.”
“We found out that West Africa has equally been a center for drug consumption in a very bad way. That was more than 10 years ago, so the situation has since gone worse. And whatever applies to West Africa applies to all other parts of Africa.”
