Prominent PDP member Chief Sunny Onuesoke has harshly criticized the administration for its handling of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s remarks, calling President Bola Tinubu’s aides’ remarks “shameful, embarrassing, and unpresidential,” according to DAILY INDEPENDENT.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
Obasanjo recently spoke at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University in the United States, criticizing the current state of Nigeria’s economy and accused the government of poor leadership.
Obasanjo also called for changes in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure credible elections.
The presidency, through its spokespersons Bayo Onanuga and Sunday Dare, responded harshly.
Onanuga accused Obasanjo of mismanaging public funds during his presidency and failing to deliver on infrastructure projects, such as the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and claimed that Obasanjo’s government left unresolved problems that continue to affect Nigeria.
Dare, another presidential adviser, went further, labeling Obasanjo a “mischief maker” and accusing him of corruption.
He alleged that Obasanjo wasted $16 billion on uncompleted power projects and described his tenure as one of the most corrupt in Nigeria’s history and criticized Obasanjo for attempting a third term in office, which he said damaged Nigeria’s democracy.
In response to these statements, Onuesoke defended Obasanjo, stating that he had merely expressed the frustrations of many Nigerians and argued that the government should focus on addressing the country’s challenges instead of attacking Obasanjo and added that Tinubu’s aides had failed to uphold the dignity of their offices by making unguarded statements.
“What the presidential spokespersons have said to a man of Obasanjo’s caliber is very shameful, embarrassing and Unpresidential.”
“They have shown that they are incapable of holding their positions because they talk without reasoning.”
“What has Obasanjo said that is not true of the current situation in the country? Is there any way their principal can be compared to Obasanjo in statesmanship?”
“They ended up embarrassing both themselves and the Federal Government because what they could have done was to keep quiet and look at the message instead of attacking the messenger who is not only an elder statesman but a national hero who served this country meritoriously.”
“Nigerians are going through their worst situation and they have the right to insult a man whose pedigree they cannot match even in their lifetime. They should apologise to Obasanjo and then advise their principal to fulfil his election promises,” he said.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
