Osun Commissioner Break Silence on Adeleke’s Next Party and Defection Date

Osun State’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke will officially declare his new political party before December 13.

This follows Adeleke’s recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to months of speculation over his next political move.

Alimi confirmed that the governor submitted his resignation letter to his ward executives in Ede North as far back as November 4.

He explained that the decision was not sudden, but the result of prolonged internal problems that had weakened the PDP both in Osun and at the national level.

Speaking on a radio programme in Osogbo, the commissioner said the governor had endured several unresolved disputes within the party before finally stepping aside.

According to him, Adeleke’s exit became unavoidable as the 2026 governorship election approached and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination deadline drew closer.

Alimi stressed that the divisions in the PDP at the national level posed a direct threat to the governor’s chances of securing a smooth nomination process.

He noted that Adeleke had to prioritise political stability over party loyalty in order to avoid complications that opposition elements could exploit.

The commissioner dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, insisting that the opposition had miscalculated the governor’s next step.

He said those causing problems within PDP were already aligned with other political interests, and their actions made it impossible for Adeleke to remain in the party without risking his re-election chances.

On the governor’s next political home, Alimi said consultations are ongoing. He maintained that the public will have a clear answer before December 13, ahead of the December 15 deadline for party primaries and nomination submissions.

He added that the governor’s resignation would not have been necessary if the party had remained united at the national level.
