According to Channels TV, Benin prosecutors have announced the arrest of three high-profile individuals, including a presidential guard commander, on suspicion of plotting a coup d’état in the West African nation.
Elonm Mario Metonou, the special prosecutor at Benin’s court for financial crimes and terrorism, was quoted as saying that:
“It appears the Republican Guard commander in charge of the president’s security was engaged by the ministers Oswald Homeky and Olivier Boko in order to carry out a coup by force on September 27, 2024.”.
However, Senator Shehu Sani has now reacted to the report. In a post that he shared on his official X handle on Thursday, he said, Please don’t do it.
