At the Federal High Court in Abuja, Kanu stated, “This persecution of the Igbo people in Nigeria, this almost global orchestrated persecution of Igbo people stops with me. It can never happen. I am campaigning for the freedom of my people, as simple as that.”

Kanu’s statement came during the resumed hearing of his trial, which took a dramatic turn when Justice Binta Nyako agreed to recuse herself. Kanu had expressed loss of confidence in the court, citing Justice Nyako’s alleged failure to obey Supreme Court orders.

The judge subsequently withdrew from the case, stating her inability to proceed with a trial where the defendant lacked confidence in the court. The case file has been remitted to the Chief Judge for reassignment to another judge.

Kanu faces seven charges of terrorism and treason, which he denies. His trial has been ongoing since 2015, marked by multiple delays and challenges.

The IPOB leader’s supporters view his campaign as a fight for the freedom and rights of the Igbo people, while the federal government considers it a threat to national unity.

The reassignment of the case to a new judge is expected to spark renewed interest in the high-profile trial.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
