Asue Ighodalo, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the current Edo election, has expressed worries about the detention of party members, calling it “indiscriminate,” according to Vanguard News. Ighodalo charged that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were participating in unethical behavior throughout the electoral process. Ighodalo condemned the arrest of one of his supporters in Uromi, explaining that the individual was only at the polling unit to get accredited. He expressed disappointment over what he described as unjust actions against PDP supporters and called for fairness throughout the electoral process.
Addressing the issue of firearms at polling units, Ighodalo emphasized that carrying guns to polling stations is illegal. “It’s against the law. It’s against the regulation,” he stated, urging all participants to follow the rules and maintain peace during the election.
Ighodalo further expressed dissatisfaction with the delays in the distribution of election materials, criticizing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for poor planning. He also alleged that efforts were being made to buy votes, with sums ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 naira. He warned against any attempt to undermine the electoral process, urging the authorities to take necessary steps to prevent vote-buying and other irregularities.
