The Sun reports that Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki is upset and worried about the state’s Commissioner of Police’s disrespect for his authority in his capacity as Chief Security Officer. Despite receiving a promise of follow-up, Obaseki received no further communication from the police, prompting him to escalate the matter to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The governor emphasized the implications of this situation for democracy in the state, stating, “If the Edo Commissioner of Police can undermine my authority as the Chief Security Officer of the state, I really don’t know what to do next.”

Obaseki stressed the importance of the police safeguarding the interests of all citizens, upholding democratic principles, and not selectively serving individual interests.
