The nation on Tuesday, August 6th witnessed a tragic incidence in it’s history as a 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life while participating in the ongoing nationwide protest against bad governance and economic hardship. In a twist of events, the Nigerian Army, who attempted to disperse hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful protest by firing shots into the air lost a shot as the bullet mistakenly hit the boy, according to a statement released by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu the Director General of Army Public Relations.
In the aftermath of the incidence, The Nigerian Army has detained the soldier who is responsible for the death of the 16-year-old boy, and this is according to a statement made by the Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu and made available to the public by leading news outlet, VANGUARD today being Wednesday the 7th day of August, 2024. In his statements, Nwachukwu recalled the unfortunate incidence which led to the boy’s death, making it known that the said soldier has been arrested and undergoing interrogation.

“On arrival at the scene, the hoodlums brazenly attempted attacking the troops, prompting a soldier to fire a warning shot to scare the hoodlums away, which unfortunately led to the death of a 16-year-old boy, Ismail Mohammed.
“The soldier involved has since been arrested and undergoing interrogation as of the time of this report,” he said.
