Obafemi Hamzat: When we visited Onyeka Onwenu people do not know the husband is a Yoruba man

The deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, recently came out against a social media campaign that demanded that the Igbo people leave Lagos in an interview with Arise TV. Hamzat said the late Onyeka Onwenu, a well-known Nigerian singer, was married to a Yoruba man, which shows the harmony that exists between Igbos and Yorubas. He assured that the Lagos State Governor has condemned the campaign and that even President Tinubu has spoken against ethnic bigotry. He added that the State Security Service (SSS) is investigating the situation and will work to find and hold accountable those responsible for the campaign.

In Hamzat’s words: “On the issue of the Igbos, you know the interesting thing: when we visited Onyeka Onwenu people don’t know the husband is a Yoruba man. People just hide under whatever, and just put something on social media. Like we said, the governor has condemned it; even in the speech of the President, he condemned ethnic bigotry.
