Many protesters in the country, especially in Lagos, observed that some police officers, including the Commissioners of Police, came to protest grounds and wore the red armbands on their uniforms.

The man, whose X handle is @abdul_riz, asked about the issue apparently after seeing police officers with the red armbands at the protest ground in Minna, the state capital.

Responding to the post however, the Police PRO said the red armbands indicate the police commitment and dedication to protect peaceful protesters, ensure public safety and make sure that miscreants with ulterior motives do not have their way.

He wrote: “We love the public, and we must guarantee a conducive environment, hence the red armbands.”
