Nigerians have responded violently to remarks attributed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on social media, particularly X (previously Twitter), regarding their right to take part in the August 1, 2024, nationwide protests against economic hardship. Akpabio had reportedly advised those preparing to demonstrate to go ahead while he and others “will be there eating,” according to earlier reports in the media.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
The former Governor of Akwa Ibom State was speaking at an event organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Rivers state.
Speaking after the Managing Director of the NDDC had spoken, Akpabio said:
“MD, I want to thank you for what you said. You said we are not interested in regime change, let us own this government.
“Those who want to protest can protest, but let us be there eating — I must thank the Niger Delta.”
However, his remarks has understandably incensed many citizens, who have expressed their anger in their reactions.
