According to Ndume: I cannot accept this offer under the current circumstances

Punch reports that Ali Ndume, who was been dismissed from his position as Senate Chief Whip, turned down a new assignment from Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Following his termination on July 17, 2024, Ndume expressed his dissatisfaction with the political climate within the All Progressives Congress (APC) by saying, “I cannot accept this offer under the current circumstances.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

Just two days later, Akpabio proposed that Ndume become Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism. However, Ndume declined, stating, “I believe my contributions are better suited elsewhere, and I cannot work with a leadership that does not value dissenting opinions.”

Ndume’s ousting occurred during a plenary session where the APC caucus voted for his removal. His criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly regarding economic hardships, were seen as damaging to party unity. Following his dismissal, the APC leadership advised him, “It would be best for you to resign from the party and consider joining an opposition group.”

Political analysts note that Ndume’s rejection of the new role highlights significant challenges within the APC. He had previously supported Akpabio’s election as Senate president, leading a group that backed him.

This situation reflects ongoing struggles within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in the ruling APC. Ndume stated, “There are many voices in our party that deserve to be heard,” indicating that his stance may resonate with others critical of the government’s performance. Observers will be watching closely to see how these developments affect the APC and its leadership.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
