Rivers: Election Could Be Written Inside Chief of Staff office. It Was Done So In My Time: According to Tony Okocha

 

Tony Okocha, the chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, has suggested that the issue of Local Government elections shouldn’t be the responsibility of a state governor.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In a video posted on YouTube by Channels TV, Okocha recounted that during his time as the Chief of Staff of Rivers State under the former governor Rotimi Amaechi, the local government elections were written inside his office. He said it is the duty of the electoral commission to announce the result, noting that any agreived member can appeal to the state tribunal.

Okocha acclaimed that local government elections shouldn’t be conducted be the state electoral commission because of manipulation from governors.

He said, “Election could be written inside Chief of Staff office. It was done so in my time, we will write the result and hand over to the electoral commission. They make announcement of result any agreived member can go to the tribunal… It was the reason why in all state were they are conducting election all the positions were won by the governor’s own party. Does that suggest democracy? It does.

Okocha also appeal to the National Assembly to either dissolute or remove the issue of election leadership from the hand of the state governors.

He continued, “We also use this opportunity to appeal to the National Assembly to immediately either by dissolution or whatsoever to remove the issue of election leadership from the hand of state governors.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
