In order to discuss a matter of “privilege” involving Senator Ireti Kingibe and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the Nigerian Senate has called a closed-door meeting. According to Tribune, FCT Minister, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike had previously threatened political consequences for Kingibe, suggesting that she would lose her Senate bid in 2027 as long as he remained in office.

In response, Kingibe criticized Wike for marginalizing her role in FCT governance, notably questioning the approval of the 2024 FCT budget without her input.

However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio presided over the session, emphasizing the gravity of the privilege matter raised by Senator Kingibe prior to the Senate’s recess.
