Supporters of Nyesom Wike in the Rivers State Assembly swore to block any attempts by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to form caretaker committees.
Sahara Reporters reported that a member of the assembly strongly said, “Fubara will not install caretaker committees in our local government areas.”
Youths have already taken over government offices in the Degema and Asari-Toru Local Government Areas, barring doors and yelling, “We’re staying here until Wednesday. Let the outgoing chairmen come and face us.”
In a video, a guy claiming to be with the Joint Task Force in charge of anti-bunkering operations issued a warning.
He said, “We’re taking over all councils on Wednesday. Caretakers, be ready.” He underlined that, in order to combat crime, working with the government is essential.
The head of the Ikwerre Local Government Area and a close supporter of Wike, Samuel Nwanosike, contended, “Fubara cannot appoint caretaker committees, as per the Court of Appeal ruling.”
