In light of the criticism and uproar surrounding their proposal, which was seen as absurd and unworkable, union leaders were willing to reevaluate raising their demand from N494,000 to N100,000, according to numerous labor movement sources who talked with The PUNCH on Tuesday.
In a statement by his media aide, Rabiu Ibrahim on Saturday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the proposed minimum wage would result in an annual expenditure of N9.5tn, a burden he described as untenable for the nation’s finances.
However, in a video post on on X by YabaleftOnline, The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, said “I can’t afford to pay my four drivers 100k per month.”
