He indicated the disparity between the ongoing legal case and a prior incident involving former Governor Ganduje. He stated that while the “dollar video” scandal resulted in only two charges being levied, the present case encompasses a broader array of allegations.
He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”We filed a charge against an individual in April 2023. N436 million was appropriated to buy mosquito nets for Kano people but the money was diverted, they sent it to Bureau De Change, changed it to dollar, and then took it to somebody. So we have to file a charge against them.
Speaking on the difference between the current charge against Ganduje and the Dollar video, he said, ”The difference in this case is the level of the charge. The issue of the dollar video was only able to make two count charges. The Court said we should not investigate not only the former governor but also his family members and even those that he appointed. And I think we spent almost 6 months waiting for that order to be vacated.”
The Kano State government has filed eight criminal charges against former governor Abdullahi Ganduje for allegedly stealing 5.6 billion naira from Kano’s coffers and taking bribes from public work contractors totalling almost half a million dollars.
