According to Jummai: Shekau Said They Did Not Kidnapped Us For Religion, But What The Government Had Done To Them

Jummai, one of the Chibok girls who was abducted by Boko Haram in 2014 but was subsequently liberated, stated in an interview with Channels that Shekau informed them that they had not abducted the girls because of their faith but rather because of what the government had done to them. Jummai said, “They didn’t catch us because of religion or something like that; they caught (kidnapped) us to pay for what the government had done to them, but we don’t know what our government did to them. But after Shekau explained some things to us, we learned that when they come to Nigeria and fight people, the soldiers catch their children and put them in prison, so we Chibok girls represent their children.
