Victim Reveals: 'I Was Worried That If I Married One Of The Terrorists, Who Would Pay My Bride Price?'

Jummai Mutah, a Chibok schoolgirl who was rescued, claims that when the rebels announced their plan to force marriages on them, she grew nervous and worried about the consequences of such partnerships, especially who would pay her bride price. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

She claimed to be extremely disheartened and to have rejected the notion of being married to the terrorists after seeing their heinous disrespect for human life and lack of respect for God. She said she still had hope for a final escape from the captivity in the bush, even in these dire circumstances.

She said in an interview with Channels TV, ”It was a tough experience but I had courage because I had my bible with me and I’m reading always. And there are some verses that I read that give me courage. After they said that they wanted to start marrying us.

I was worried that if I married one of the terrorists, who would pay my bride price? I was so discouraged and I looked at how they are living. They kill people without a second thought and without God’s fear in their hearts. I said to myself that I cannot do this. I felt it was better to be punished than to get married there. But I kept hoping that one day I will get out of the forest.”

On the night of 14-15, April 2014, 276 female students aged from 10 to 18 were kidnapped by the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram from the Government Girls Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno state, Nigeria.

Prior to the raid, the school had been closed for four weeks due to deteriorating security conditions but the girls were in attendance in order to take attendance to take the final WAEC exam in Physics. About 276 Female Students were abducted, 57 of the school girls reportedly escaped immediately following the incident by jumping from the trucks on which they were being transported.
