Wike Reveals 'Did Akwa Ibom Governor Not Take All The Members Of Udom's Cabinet When He Came Into Office?'

In response to allegations that he selected special aides for Sir Sim Fubara, former Rivers State governor and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike claimed that the governor of Akwa Ibom state kept all of the members of the former governor, Emmanuel Udom’s cabinet. He said that it was a calculated strategy to maintain equity and prevent upsetting any party group by designating a mixture of former cabinet members and other supporters to leadership roles. He said in an interview with TVC, ”So because I’m no longer governor I should not oil my political machinery. It’s not true that I submitted 18 names out of 19 commissioners. But then, this is how you know trusted men.

Did the Akwa Ibom governor not take all the members of Udom’s cabinet when he came into office? If we say look the whole cabinet supported you and there are also people who are not in the cabinet that supported you. So the best bet is to take 50% and let us take 50%. So that people won’t say that they lost out. What is wrong with that?”

A Close aide to the Rivers state governor had claimed that Sir Sim Fubara had no input into the appointment of commissioners, special advisers, and other key aides. The aide claimed that his predecessor was solely responsible for their selection and appointment.

A lot of commissioners re-signed during the intense rift between Wike and Fubara before the mediation of the President.
