Slain Soldiers: We Will Not Accept Any Talk About Human Rights As If The Soldiers Being Killed Are Not Humans -According to Garba

Following the deaths of 16 soldiers in Delta State, Major General Mohammed Bashir Garba, a retired military officer, criticized the idea of human rights. He contended that human rights should be taken into account for the troops who were also killed. He encouraged the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces to make sure that those responsible for the offenses are held accountable and demanded that the offenders be apprehended. He emphasized how commonplace illicit activities like oil theft and unlicensed refineries were in the two towns where the troops were slain. He identified the financial motivations of those who were undermining Nigeria’s economy by stealing crude oil.

It was gathered that the slain military personnel responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State. The Chief of Defence staff, Christopher Musa has ordered a probe into the tragic killing of the four Senior Officers and 12 soldiers.

He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”This is an area where oil theft is going on, illegal refinery is going on there. So the land where these things can be found can be very lucrative to people interested in sabotaging the Nigerian economy by making themselves richer. They will do anything to see that this kind of thing keeps on happening so that they keep on gaining. But unfortunately, it happened at a wrong time.

We will not accept any talk about human rights as if the soldiers being killed are not humans. They are only doing their jobs and I see no reason why some people will kill soldiers at duty. As far as Nigeria is concerned, you cannot just say that you don’t want Soldiers in your area. So whoever this group of people are, they will be apprehended. And when they are caught, I’m calling on the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces to not allow them to go scot-free.
