During a Mic On Podcast conversation with Seun Okinbaloye, Bello disclosed that when he was younger, he used to go to the church where Oby’s husband, a pastor, gave sermons. He claimed that, considering their past relationship, he was uneasy by Ezekwesili’s silence over claims that his family harbored animosity toward Christians. He even remembered that, proving their strong relationship, Ezekwesili had prepared a reference letter for him to enroll at Georgetown University.

In Bello’s words: “When we were kids, we used to go to Oby’s church, her husband is a pastor. We used to go to her church but she was right there on Twitter seeing people saying we have issues with Christians, and she calls my father her brother, so I asked him why isn’t she even coming out to say this is not who we are. My father said just leave it. So already I was not happy with her. Before that, I went to Georgetown, and Oby wrote my recommendation to Georgetown. That is how close we were.
