As governor, some Imams told my father 'We are worried your cook is a Christian and your steward is a Christian - According to Bello El-Rufai

The son of former governor Nasir El-Rufai, legislator Bello El-Rufai, recently recounted a tale that exemplifies his father’s dedication to working with people regardless of their religious views. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

During his father’s tenure as Kaduna governor, Bello revealed in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic On Podcast that he received a visit from some Imams who voiced concern over the chef and steward in his home who were Christians. He stated that made his father ask his ADC, Ibrahim, about his faith, and to his surprise, Ibrahim answered that he was a Zuruv-born Christian. Bello emphasized that, like his father, he also thinks that people should be treated equally regardless of their religious background.

Bello also emphasized the importance of religious tolerance, drawing on the example of Prophet Muhammad coexisting with people of different faiths in Medina.

In Bello’s words: “As governor, some Imams told my father ‘We are worried your cook is a Christian and your steward is a Christian” My father now looked at his ADC, Ibrahim, and asked him Ibrahim are you a Christian? And he answered yes sir. My father said I never knew, when I saw your documents that you were from Kebbi I just assumed Kebbi is a northwest state. The ADC said I am from Zuruv and you know there are some Christians there. Now why am I telling that story? We could work with you for days, I don’t care who you worship, I am going to be buried alone so why should I care who you worship?
