Ndume explained that Nigeria’s middle class, those who aren’t rich or poor but are often trying to build a stable life, is shrinking. He warned that raising taxes now would put more pressure on them, making life even harder. “In the current situation, increasing tax is not an alternative at all. I will not support any increase in any tax,” Ndume said.
He believes the government should focus on helping people “live, not just survive.” Before demanding more from citizens, he suggests the government should work to improve their financial stability. He also emphasized that poverty is especially severe in northern Nigeria, and extra taxes would hit this region the hardest.
Ndume used a powerful metaphor, comparing taxes to “asking for blood donations.” He suggested that Nigerians need to be financially stable and comfortable, with some “extra blood” to spare, before the government demands more from them in taxes.
Ndume also pointed out that wealthier Nigerians, who can afford to pay higher taxes, often avoid paying them. In his view, it’s unfair to increase taxes on those struggling while some wealthy individuals don’t pay their fair share.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
