Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has received a severe threat from the Niger Delta Development Force (NDDF), a militant organization active in the Niger Delta, for allegedly attempting to meddle in Rivers State’s governance. Punch reports that if Wike persists in his alleged intervention in the affairs of Rivers State and its current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the NDDF, represented by its spokesperson Justin Alabraba, has vowed to destroy oil installations throughout the Niger Delta.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
The group’s primary grievance stems from Wike’s reported pursuit of legal action that could potentially halt funding for Rivers’ local governments, a move that the NDDF claims would severely impact their operations. The group alleges that Wike is working with a favorable judge to secure a ruling that would block local government allocations to the state.
“We will shut down major oil installations in the Niger Delta,” Alabraba warned, emphasizing that any attempt to financially incapacitate the state would be met with disruption to governance on a broader scale. “Wike must leave Governor Fubara alone, or we will respond by targeting key oil facilities.”
The NDDF’s statement accuses Wike of using federal influence to intimidate and disrupt the administration of his successor, Fubara. The group added that Rivers State, and by extension the Niger Delta, would no longer tolerate the “harassment” from Wike, who previously served two terms as governor.
“If Tinubu ignores this, we’ll face the consequences together,” Alabraba stated, directing his warning towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The group’s spokesman emphasized that their threats are not just empty words but promises of impending action.
“Enough is enough. We will no longer be taken for granted,” the statement concluded, underscoring the NDDF’s determination to defend the interests of Rivers State and the Niger Delta region.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
