In response to reports that the Super Eagles were left stranded at Al Abaq Airport by Libyan authorities for thirteen hours after arriving in the North African nation for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matchday four match against the Mediterranean Knights, Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, said during a plenary session at the upper legislative chamber that what happened to the Super Eagles in Libya was not in keeping CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
According to Vanguard, the Deputy Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Barau Jibrin, said, “What happened to the Super Eagles in Libya is not in tandem with the spirit of sports. The essence of sports is to promote unity and competition and enhance brotherhood among the countries on the continent. The way our players are treated is terrible and condemnable. Fortunately, you (Kawu) have come through a personal explanation, and this is what we intended it to do because we don’t want a diplomatic row; we think this is a mistake that the Libyan should be given a chance to correct and apologize to the Nigerian government.”

 

Senator Barau Jibrin added that the Federal Republic of Nigeria was a big country in Africa, and they always led in terms of diplomacy, friendship, and everything. He also urged the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that they should come out and apologize for what they have done to the Nigeria national team.

On the other hand, the Libyan Football Association said that it was important to highlight that just last week, their own national team, the Mediterranean Knights of Libya, faced significant challenges upon their arrival in Nigeria for the third match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
