The increase of beggars on the streets of Abuja has alarmed Nyesom Wike, the FCT’s minister. Wike claimed in a video released by TVC that some of these beggars may be criminals or informants posing as needy. He said that by making sure that there aren’t any suspicious people on the streets pretending to be beggars, he hopes to boost security and Abuja’s reputation.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
In Wike’s words: “In terms of security, let me say it clearly now that we have declared war. Abuja is turning to beggars city. If you know you have a sister or brother who is a beggar on the road, please from next week we will carry them. We will take them out. It is embarrassing that people will come in and the first thing they see are those beggars on the road, sometimes too they may not be beggars, they may be criminals pretending to be beggars. We will not allow that.
“So I have given you a public holiday from now till Sunday. From Monday we will pack them out. Let us know that we have a city that we can call a city.
