Alarm Over School Fires: Kebbi Launches High-Stakes Investigation Panel

Kebbi State has taken decisive action in response to a troubling series of fires affecting its schools, forming a special committee to uncover the causes and prevent future tragedies.

The directive, issued from the Governor’s Office, mandates the high-level panel to conduct a thorough probe into the recent outbreaks. The committee will be led by the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Ibrahim Muhammad Sakaba.

In a statement, the government outlined the panel’s critical tasks: to investigate the immediate and underlying causes of the infernos, assess the full extent of damage and losses, and recommend concrete safety and security measures to protect educational facilities.

The committee includes key figures such as the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Permanent Secretary for Basic and Secondary Education, and representatives from the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the State Fire Service.

“The state government remains committed to protecting students, teachers, and school facilities,” the announcement assured, promising that actionable steps will follow the committee’s findings to safeguard schools from further incidents.
