On December 30, 2024, following the presentation of the N1.188 trillion budget by a three-member assembly headed by Victor Oko-Jumbo, Governor Fubara officially signed the bill into law. The group’s National President, Bature Haruna, and FCT Coordinator, Mark Okpanachi Ogah, issued a statement describing the action as unlawful.
They claimed that by acting in this way, Fubara is undermining democratic norms and going against court orders that acknowledge Amaewhule as the rightful speaker. The coalition demanded that Governor Fubara return public faith in his government, adhere to constitutional governance principles, and honor judicial decisions. In order to end the political turmoil in Rivers State, they also stressed that the governor must join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reconciliation efforts.
The group also brought attention to the role that Nyesom Wike, the former governor and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had in Fubara’s ascent to power. Claiming that Wike was instrumental in Fubara’s nomination and continued political life, they berated him for what they saw as betrayal. They argue that it is politically and morally unstable to ignore Wike’s political framework. A call for democracy, justice, and peace in Nigeria was reiterated by the Arewa Youths.
Additionally, they conveyed their appreciation to President Tinubu for his role in resolving the political situation in Rivers and for enacting the North Central Development Commission, which, in their view, will promote development in the region.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
