In the video circulating on social media, Oba Ogunjobi can be heard cursing the elderly man, who was kneeling, as individuals believed to be his thugs intermittently slapped him. The traditional ruler was also heard threatening to have the man, who pleaded that he was unwell, either killed or sent to jail. The Oba boasted that he had control over the police.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from the man’s refusal to support Oba Ogunjobi in an Obaship dispute.

According to reports from PM News Nigeria, the Ogun State government acted swiftly after the video gained widespread attention. The traditional ruler, along with his victim, was invited to meet with the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Abeokuta for questioning. Following the investigation, the Ministry announced the suspension of Oba Ogunjobi and stripped him of the paraphernalia of his title as Olorile of Orile Ifo, pending further investigation.

“The suspension became necessary due to the reckless behavior and public misconduct exhibited by the Kabiyesi, as seen in the viral video and discussed in the public domain,” the Ministry said in a statement. “The decision was made in consultation with the Egba Traditional Council, in accordance with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021.”

The Ogun State Police Command has also invited the Oba for questioning regarding the assault captured in the video.
