In a statement announcing his resignation, Nwoko, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Preparations and Repatriations and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, expressed concern over the party’s fragmentation. According to reports from Blueprint Newspaper, he stated that the worsening divisions have made it increasingly difficult to foster unity and effectively serve the interests of his constituents.
“I write to formally resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a party I have proudly served as a foundation member since 1999,” Nwoko stated.
Highlighting a recent incident of in-fighting among party members, he referenced a physical altercation that occurred on January 29, 2024, describing it as a sign of the irreconcilable differences plaguing the party.
Nwoko acknowledged the PDP’s role in providing him with a platform to contest the 2022/2023 senatorial election, allowing him to connect directly with his constituents and share his vision for development. However, he expressed disappointment in the current party structure in Delta State, which he believes has hindered his ability to fulfill his campaign promises.
“During my campaign, I made solemn and actionable promises to my constituents—commitments I take seriously as a servant of the people. Regrettably, the current structure of the party in our state has not been conducive to realizing these promises. After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that stepping away from the party is necessary to fulfill my obligations to my people,” he explained.
Despite his departure from the PDP, Nwoko assured his constituents and party members of his continued dedication to leadership, unity, and the development of Delta North.
“My decision is rooted in the best interest of those I serve, and I remain committed to the progress and prosperity of our state and nation,” he affirmed.
He extended his gratitude to the PDP leadership and its members for their support over the years and wished the party continued success in its future endeavors.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
