Anthony Joshua Breaks Silence on Friends’ Tragic Death, Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has opened up about the death of his two close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, in a deeply emotional tribute.

The tragedy occurred on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. Joshua was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck. While he sustained minor injuries and was briefly hospitalized, his friends were pronounced dead at the scene.

In an Instagram post on January 8, 2026, Joshua expressed profound grief and gratitude for the outpouring of support shown to the families. He wrote: “Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn’t even realise how special they are. I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men. 100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents. I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.”

Speaking with UFC star Kamaru Usman, Joshua admitted that the reality “still hasn’t sunk in,” adding: “They both passed away. It still hasn’t hit me yet.”

Ghami, Joshua’s long-time strength and conditioning coach, was a co-founder of Evolve Gym, while Ayodele, his personal trainer, had shared many lighthearted moments with the boxer, including a table tennis session just hours before the fatal accident. Both men were integral members of Joshua’s team and close friends for years.
