The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has openly opposed the unfolding attempt to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy from office, describing the move as unacceptable and politically dangerous.
The controversy followed a decision by the Rivers State House of Assembly to activate impeachment proceedings against the governor, citing allegations of misconduct. Reports indicate that formal notices are expected to be served on both the governor and his deputy within a week.
Responding swiftly, the APC in Rivers State distanced itself from the process. In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, the party made it clear that it would not stand by while the state’s leadership is dragged into further instability.
According to Nwauju, the impeachment effort reflects unresolved political battles imported from internal crises elsewhere, now threatening the unity and direction of governance in Rivers State. He stressed that such conflicts should not be allowed to undermine an administration elected under the party’s banner.
The APC maintained that it is determined to protect the continuity of governance in the state and warned that it would resist any action capable of plunging Rivers into renewed political turmoil. The party’s stance signals a fresh escalation in the power struggle surrounding the state’s leadership, with far-reaching implications in the days ahead.
