Fresh Shockwaves in Rivers as Lawmakers Move Against Fubara

Political uncertainty deepened in Rivers State on Thursday after the State House of Assembly formally set in motion impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh.

The action was taken during a plenary session led by the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule. At the sitting, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, presented an impeachment notice outlining allegations of gross misconduct against the governor. The document, reportedly supported by 26 lawmakers, accused Governor Fubara of conduct said to be inconsistent with constitutional provisions.

Following the presentation, Speaker Amaewhule disclosed that the official notice would be transmitted to the governor within seven days, in line with legislative procedure.

The Assembly also turned its attention to the deputy governor during the session. The Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read a separate notice containing allegations of misconduct against Ngozi Oduh, signaling that both top officials of the state executive are now facing parallel impeachment actions.

The development marks another dramatic turn in Rivers State’s ongoing political tensions, setting the stage for a potentially turbulent period as the impeachment process unfolds.
