VDM Backs Yahaya Bello for Senate Amid EFCC Case, Takes Swipe at Senator Natasha

Popular social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has thrown his weight behind former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello in the race for the Kogi Central Senate seat.

His endorsement has stirred fresh political debate, especially as it comes at a time when Bello is still facing trial over alleged financial crimes.

VDM’s support followed a recent clarification surrounding Bello’s ongoing ₦82.2bn fraud case. The clarification reaffirmed that the former governor remains legally innocent until a court gives a final judgment.

This position has opened the door for Bello to continue pursuing his political ambition without legal restriction.

In a message shared on social media, VDM presented Bello as a man who has passed through public scrutiny and emerged stronger. He said the former governor represents growth and experience, not perfection.

He argued that leadership is shaped over time and through challenges.

VDM wrote, “In light of what happened in the past, the controversy, the accusations by the EFCC, and criticisms from some Nigerians, I see a true leader who has worked on his flaws and, over time, has become a better man. Everybody deserves a second chance.”

He maintained that Bello’s time as governor has prepared him for higher responsibility.

According to him, Kogi Central needs someone with political toughness and administrative experience. He insisted that emotional appeal should not outweigh capacity when choosing leaders.

VDM added that Bello should be allowed to return to public office to prove his worth. He said past allegations should not be used to permanently shut people out of governance. In his view, leadership should be judged by performance and competence.

However, the activist’s comments took a controversial turn when he spoke about Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is expected to contest the same seat.

VDM questioned her leadership ability and experience. He described her political approach as emotional rather than strategic.

He also made a remark suggesting she should be at home “cooking for her husband,” a statement that quickly drew reactions online and intensified public discussion around gender and politics.

The comments have since generated mixed responses across social media, with supporters and critics weighing in on both Bello’s candidacy and VDM’s remarks.

Recall Politics Nigeria recently reported on the EFCC’s clarification of Yahaya Bello’s legal status, stressing that the former governor is innocent and remains eligible for political participation while his case is ongoing.
