Manchester United are weighing a return to familiar faces as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick emerge as leading candidates for the club’s interim managerial position until the end of the season.
Reports indicate that senior United executives recently held discussions with both former players as the club searches for short-term stability following the exit of Ruben Amorim. A final decision is expected after in-person meetings with the candidates.
In the meantime, former midfielder Darren Fletcher is set to take charge of the team for Wednesday night’s Premier League fixture against Burnley, acting as a stopgap solution while talks continue behind the scenes.
Solskjaer, who previously took over as an interim boss in late 2018 after Jose Mourinho’s departure, later earned a permanent role and remained in charge for nearly three years. Carrick, on the other hand, briefly led the side as caretaker manager for three matches after Solskjaer was dismissed in 2021.
Sources suggest Ruud van Nistelrooy is no longer being considered for the role at this stage. With the season at a critical point, United’s leadership appears keen on experience and familiarity as they look to steady the club’s fortunes in the short term.
