Police operatives in Delta State have dealt a blow to suspected drug networks following the arrest of two alleged drug barons and the recovery of large quantities of illicit substances during coordinated raids.
The arrests were carried out by the Quick Response Squads (QRS) after actionable intelligence led officers to identified drug hubs in Sapele and Warri axis of the state. The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Bemigho Omoghomi and 46-year-old Onoriode Samuel, were taken into custody on separate dates earlier this month. Two additional suspects were also arrested during the operations.
According to the Delta State Police Command, the raids targeted known “black spots” at New Road near Ewereto Junction in Sapele and Agofure Park around Effurun Roundabout, areas believed to be notorious for drug-related activities.
A police spokesperson confirmed that substantial quantities of illegal drugs were recovered from the suspects during the raids. All arrested persons are currently being held as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the alleged drug operations and possible links to wider criminal networks.
The police reiterated their commitment to tackling drug trafficking and related crimes across the state, warning that intelligence-led operations will continue in identified hotspots.
