Abia Deputy Governor Denies Link to Former Students’ Leader’s Killing

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, has once again denied any involvement in the murder of Igwe Akuma Akwu, the former President-General of the National Association of Ohafia Students, and the recent unrest in the Okon-Aku community.

In a press release issued on Wednesday through his Chief Press Secretary, Cyril Chukwudi Mba, Emetu rejected media claims linking his office to acts of intimidation or violence against residents. He emphasized that his intervention in the community was solely to restore peace and safeguard lives.

Emetu welcomed an independent and transparent investigation into the killing, insisting that justice must be guided by facts rather than media speculation. He questioned the allegations, noting, “If Igwe Akuma had already been shot before the Deputy Governor arrived in Okon-Aku, on what factual basis is he being linked to the shooting?”

The Deputy Governor also clarified that he holds no ancestral, political, or traditional stake in the chieftaincy matters of Okon-Aku, which are governed strictly by custom and law, reiterating that his role has always been one of peacekeeping and protection.
