NNPP Reshuffles Katsina Leadership, Targets Strong Showing in 2027 Elections

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina State has overhauled its leadership structure and reaffirmed its readiness to contest strongly in the 2027 general elections after a congress that produced a new slate of executive officers.

The state congress, held on Monday in Katsina, drew a large turnout of party faithful and was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Party sources described the exercise as peaceful, well-coordinated and devoid of rancour.

Chairman of the congress election committee, Alhaji Tukur Muhammad-Fagge, commended delegates and stakeholders for the orderly conduct of the exercise, noting that the affirmation of unopposed candidates was a sign of unity rather than weakness.

He said the outcome of the congress demonstrated the NNPP’s growing internal cohesion and readiness to engage other parties competitively in the build-up to 2027, adding that the process reflected a healthy culture of internal democracy.

Muhammad-Fagge, who represents Fagge State Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, explained that while some key officers, including the state chairman, Abdulkadir, retained their positions, a number of new figures were brought into the executive to inject fresh energy and ideas into the party’s structure in Katsina.

He urged the new leadership to prioritise inclusiveness, consultation and service to the grassroots, stressing that their decisions in the coming months would influence not only the NNPP’s fortunes but also contribute to the strengthening of Nigeria’s democratic space.

Responding on behalf of the new executive, state chairman Abdulkadir thanked delegates and stakeholders for the renewed mandate, promising to run an open and accountable leadership that would work to expand the party’s support base across the state.

He pledged to approach the 2027 polls with “renewed determination,” expressing confidence that with collective effort and divine guidance, the NNPP would deliver an impressive performance in the next election cycle.

Abdulkadir also paid tribute to the party’s national leader, Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, describing him as a rallying figure for many Nigerians and insisting that the country still needed his brand of leadership.

Out of 37 executive positions filled during the congress, Alhaji Muhammad Nasir-Tsauri returned as Deputy Chairman, while Alhaji Tijjani Zakaria emerged as Secretary.

Others elected include Alhaji Sani Arga as Deputy Chairman, Katsina Zone; Alhaji Mani Ibrahim-Jani as Vice Chairman, Daura Zone; and Alhaji Garba Sarki as Vice Chairman, Funtua Zone, among other officers expected to drive the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of 2027.
