Pastor William Kumuyi has rejected claims suggesting he dismissed reports of Christian killings in Nigeria or accused the United States of plotting to seize Nigeria’s resources.
The Deeper Christian Life Ministry described the circulating publication as a complete lie and a calculated attempt to mislead the public.
In a statement shared on his official X page on Monday, the church branded the report as “fake news,” insisting the respected cleric never granted any press briefing where such comments were made.
The viral story, pushed by an online platform, claimed Pastor Kumuyi made controversial remarks during an event in Lagos, stirring outrage across social media.
Reacting to the false claims, the ministry expressed disappointment that some individuals would attempt to attribute political statements to the preacher.
“The Deeper Christian Life Ministry #dclmhq condemns in the strongest terms the malicious and entirely false news report circulated by a faceless platform which goes by the name of ‘Ibomfocus.’” the statement noted.
The ministry emphasized that the fabricated headline — “America is Trying to Steal our Natural Resources; There is No Christian Genocide in Nigeria, says Pastor Kumuyi” — does not reflect Pastor Kumuyi’s position or teachings.
It added that the report was created simply to mislead and stir controversy.
According to the church, Pastor Kumuyi was not even in the country when the false report surfaced.
It explained that he has been travelling in the Oceania and Far East regions for ministry programmes and has not spoken at any press event in Lagos recently.
The statement stressed that Pastor Kumuyi is known for his focus on preaching the gospel, not political commentary.
It noted that attempting to drag him into political debates is unfair and misleading.
The ministry then warned those spreading false claims to stop, adding that continued misinformation could attract legal action.
“The Ministry warns all those bent on mischief by seeking to drag our General Superintendent into politics, or fabricating stories in his name, to desist from such venture. In the future, any such activity may attract action,” it cautioned.
