107 staff of New Nigerian Newspapers died waiting for benefits payment

About 107 members of staff of New Nigerian Newspapers, Kaduna, have died while waiting for the payment of their benefits from the northern governors.

A statement on the official page of the NSGF Beneficiaries WhatsApp group on Wednesday read: “With submission to the will of God Almighty, I wish to announce the death of our former colleague, Mr Zakka Bitiyong, from the Commercial Printing Department and Radio Room. His death occurred last night, 11th March 2025.”

An investigation by DAILY POST revealed that about 29 other beneficiaries awaiting payment from the northern governors are severely ill and hospitalised.

A source told DAILY POST that the northern governors raked in N7 billion after selling New Nigerian Newspapers properties under the pretext of settling the NNN beneficiaries. However, to date, not a single penny has been paid out of the N2.5 billion owed to the retirees.

The organisation’s staff have reportedly been waiting for years for their benefits, with no concrete assurance from the northern governors on when they will be paid.
